Coraline

I actually had the DVD once and hid it somewhere, and I didn't see the original run in theaters because I saw the cutesy trailers and was immediately fooled like everyone else. This leans excellently on the 'adorable' angle the movie cleverly duped most of the general populace with, yet also the button-wielding-tree-hand also subtly reveals the underlying tone behind it; when I heard that little kids were dragged out crying because most of them believed the trailers--I knew I'd missed out on an honestly creepy movie. Loving Coraline's "tree-button-paranoid" face as she looks over her shoulder--I could almost see the "Mommy! SHE'S BACK AGAIN!!!" companion piece.

Good work indeed.
